Handwriting on a Notebook

A. Side bar - Thumbnails

This section displays:

- The page numbers/total pages. You can input the page number, and the main view will display that page.

- A Three-dot menu is located at the center of the thumbnail.


Taping on the three dots opens a menu with the following options:

Page Rearrangement (Up/Down arrows): When dealing with multiple pages, you have the flexibility to move pages up or down within the notebook, allowing you to adjust their sequence among the various pages

Insert blank page: Adds a new page that inherits its color and background pattern from the notebook characteristics.

Duplicate page: duplicates the current page

Background: change the background of the page

B. Toolbar

Toggle Side Bar Visibility: Optimize screen real estate by hiding or unhiding the side bar to make the most of the full-screen space.

Selecting your pen configuration:

Tap the pen icon in the top navigation bar.
  1. Pen type: Select your preferred pen type (Felt, Fountain, or Brush) from the dropdown menu.
  2. Pen thickness: Customize the pen thickness by choosing from the six options displayed below the pen-style icons.
Utilize the test space to verify the correctness of your pen style and thickness.

Selecting your ink color


After selecting your pen type, you can use the color palette to select or create your preferred ink color:

  1. Tap the blue icon.
  2. From the dropdown menu, use the available tools to select your color.
  3. The saturation slider can be used to adjust the color depth.
  4. The brightness slider can be used to adjust the color brightness.
  5. You can add as many colors as you need and delete them with the trash icon.

C. Page

The page orientation:

- Page orientation is selected when creating your new Notebook. 

Managing your handwriting with the lasso


After handwriting on the page, you have a number of options available to manage the text:

  1. Tap the lasso icon in the top navigation bar.
  2. Draw around the text that you would like to format.
  3. Nebo will detect the main body of text you are selecting. 
  4. You can move the text around the page using your pen or finger, or select from one of the six options in the pop-up menu, as seen in the image above.
    • Cut
    • Copy
    • Copy as...
    • Delete
    • Convert
    • Resize
  • See below for details.
  1. Cut will cut the selected text and allow you to paste it elsewhere in the note, onto another Nebo note, or in another app.
  2. Copy will copy the selected text to duplicate it elsewhere, in another Nebo note, or in another app.
  3. Copy as...Text, Sketch, Math, or Diagram. This allows you to reuse the selected text.
  4. Delete will delete the selected text.
  5. Convert will convert the selected text to typed font. Text that is overly slanted or vertical will not be converted. To learn more about managing converted text on a Notebook, follow this link: Using the keyboard on a Notebook and a Board
  6. Resize will allow you to resize the selected text.

Resizing your handwritten text

If you select Resize to adjust your handwritten text.

The following pen gestures are available with handwritten text:
  1. Underline. Repeat twice to undo.
  2. Strikethrough. Repeat to undo.
  3. Smart Highlighter. Repeat to undo.
  4. Freehand Highlighter. Use the in the color pallet to undo.
  5. Scratch to erase.
  6. Typed text can be joined with an upward stroke.
  7. Typed text can be divided with a downward stroke.


Zoom in/out on the page: You can pinch the page to zoom in/out. This will adjust the page view for your convenience.
